Description
This 8-meter tall monument represents various historic segments of the rule of Tsar Kaloyan. Back in 1201, he was the one to liberate and rejoin the city of Varna back to Bulgaria (the last Byzantine fortress on the Black Sea coast). He also defended the country from the Crusaders in 1205.
The Monument of Tsar Kaloyan was designed by a team from Veliko Tarnovo and it even won a national competition some years ago. The artists behind it were the architect Milen Marinov and the sculptors Boris Borisov and Boris Konstantinov. The monument is made of brass and it took the hard work of over 100 people to create it.
